Super Tuesday leads to Sad Wednesday

Posted on March 7, 2024March 7, 2024 by Elliott

The whole idea behind More Spock is to minimize our emotional responses to the issues of the day and attempt to analyze them using logic and reason. But as a human, I couldn’t help but be sad on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. On that day, our choices for the 2024 presidential election were pretty much…

The Danger of Post-Colonial Ideology

Posted on February 18, 2024February 19, 2024 by Elliott

I’ve become a fan of Still Standing!, a Canadian television show where comedian Jonny Harris visits small Canadian towns and villages that often experienced a boom in the past but are struggling in the present. The boom might have been related to timber, mining, or simply a strategic stop on a railroad. Harris does a…

Is Donald Trump a Fascist?

Posted on December 28, 2023December 28, 2023 by Elliott

One of the favorite narratives of left leaning media personalities is that Donald Trump is a Nazi Fascist determined to make himself America’s dictator-for-life. He does make it easy for them to paint this picture of him. Language he uses to describe illegal immigrants is not unlike Hitler’s language describing non-Aryans, especially Jews. He enjoys…

Imitation is Flattery

Posted on December 14, 2023December 14, 2023 by Elliott

Whenever a sports team becomes dominant in its league, other teams seek to figure out the secret sauce and replicate it. When the San Francisco 49ers began to execute what they called the “West Coast offense” in the 1980s and went on to win three Super Bowl championships that decade, we began to see multiple…

Some thoughts on Anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia

Posted on December 6, 2023December 6, 2023 by Elliott

The Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 began another war between Israel and representatives of the Islamic world. This conflict goes all the way back to the 7th century when Muhammed began to attract followers in Mecca and Medina in what is today western Saudi Arabia. What makes this conflict a little different is…

Is Ron DeSantis Right?

Posted on October 30, 2023October 30, 2023 by Elliott

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida and the University System of Florida recently banned a student group called Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). The pro-Palestinian group has shown solidarity with Hamas in its conflict with Israel. It has also been organizing anti-Israel protests at universities across the U.S. Is cancelling this group the correct approach?…

Why I am not an Atheist

Posted on October 12, 2023October 12, 2023 by Elliott

Some of my favorite contemporary philosophers are self-proclaimed atheists. These include Peter Boghossian and James Lindsey. Their individual and combined work in dissecting modern American culture, illiberalism and anti-racism has been both welcome and refreshing. I’m a big fan of Boghossian’s Beyond Woke podcast and his Youtube videos. Peter Boghossian taught philosophy at Portland State…

The Politics of Drugs and Guns

Posted on September 27, 2023September 27, 2023 by Elliott

I always enjoy discovering that a political party’s platform includes obvious contradictions. The most obvious is abortion v. capital punishment. The Republican base tends to be pro-life, but pro-capital punishment. The Democrat base tends to abhor capital punishment, but is staunchly pro-choice. Life is precious…sometimes. I’ve recently come to realize that positions on 2nd Amendment…

Should Biden Be Impeached?

Posted on September 18, 2023September 18, 2023 by Elliott

Peter Zeihan, one of my favorite podcasters, recently roasted Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, for holding up military promotions over his objections to a new military policy related to abortion care. Tuberville probably deserves the criticism he’s facing for that stubborn stance. However, Tuberville’s response to questions about…

Welcome to More Spock

The basic theme of this blog site is to approach interesting and difficult topics using more logic (Spock) and less emotion (McCoy). We created this blog because we were tired of all the shouting both on television and internet.

We recommend that you read the early posts, “Why ‘More Spock'” and “More Spock’s Constructs” before jumping into the more recent posts.

Your comments are welcome, but we’d prefer that you offer them in the spirit of the website.  We really don’t need someone yelling at us or calling us names.
